Attention Citizens of Posterville:

Just out.....

The August Issue of Cigar Aficianado has just hit the stands with one of the best articles on Rock Art that I have seen in a long time. Check it out, it's well worth the cover price.

The book "I WANT TO TAKE YOU HIGHER" . It's a trip through the wildest moments in rock & roll history. The Professor was priviledged to contribute from the Posterville archives to this book which documents the psychedelic era from 1965-1969. It was produced by The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame And Museum in association with Sarah Lazin Books. Pick it up at your local bookstore!

With the ushering in of 1997 we have the upcoming celebration of the 30th anniversary of the historic SUMMER OF LOVE to look forward to. There will be many events happening throughout the course of the summer collimating with a grand BE-IN of mega proportions. The vision of this Summer of Love Celebration is to create a unique multicultural intergenerational gathering, for the purpose of instilling reverence for global peace, embracing freedom, encouraging compassion and celebrating diversity in an environment blending music, dance, multimedia imagery and spiritual elements.

WHAT ? Musicians, Speakers, Poets, Spiritual Leaders, & Children's Events
WHERE ? Beach Chalet Meadows, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. California
WHEN ? OCTOBER 12th, 1997. 10AM - 6PM

Both the Council for the Summer of Love and POSTERVILLE are rededicating our lives and talents to a compassionate vision of the future. We welcome the participation of all those of like mind and heart. Summer of Love link.

The lesson of the 60's is that people who cared enough to do right could change history! We didn't end racism, but we ended legal segregation. We ended the idea that you could send a half million soldiers around the world to fight a war that the people do not support. We ended the idea that women are second class citizens. We made the environment an issue that couldn't be avoided. The big battles we won, cannot be reversed. We were young, self-righteous, reckless, hypocritial, brave, silly, headstrong, and scared half to death. And, WE WERE RIGHT!......Abbie Hoffman

As many as 100,000 people are expected to attend the gala event. Some say 250,000 people showed up to the original BE-IN thirty years ago. Here are the CHARLATAN's way back then! Check out the Prof's Time Machine page for a trip back to the 1967 BE-IN.

Here is the poster that was done for the 20th Anniversary of the Summer of Love. This paticular copy has been signed by all of the artists that helped to create it.

On the right is a shot directly under the Golden Gate Bridge of the 65 foot racing yacht "ANDIAMO". The owner has allowed the Summer of Love Commitee to paint the LOGO on it's main sail. This beautiful work of art will be offered for sail . Just where and when, I don't know.....so get in touch with the folks via the link to thier website. (to my knowledge, the sail will not be in the auction) BY the way, this incredible boat is docked next to Pier 39 where all the seals are. It is available for charter. The rates are very reasonable, and the ride is, well let's just say the Prof won't forget it for awhile! Photos by the Professor!

Another exciting note is that there will be a grand Rock Art Auction approx. a week before the Grand Gathering. The auction proceeds will in part benefit many local charitable causes. Compassion is the key here, not capitalism. It will be held in association with Butterfield's Auctioneering Company. The date has been set for October 4th. For further details you can contact them at 415 861 7500. If you are planning on coming into San Francisco for the festivities, try not to miss this part of the historical celebration.

The Posterville website continues to evolve. In the not to distant future, look forward to the Posterville GAME page. This will be a new INTERACTIVE chapter in Posterville which will challenge your mind and test your knowlegde of poster triva, visuals, and assorted facts. You'll have fun and possilbly be rewarded with up to $500 in Posterville purchase credits!

Here's a NEW poster brainbuster to think about!

Poster Artists?

In total, there are 452 posters that make up both the OLD Family Dog, as well as the OLD Bill Graham presents numbered poster series...
Now here's the question.....
In total just how many artists participated in creating these wonderful brain burning images we know and love as ROCK ART POSTERS between Febuary 1966 and July 1971?? Good luck my friend. Let's see what ya got. Email me with your guess!

Art Rocks. Music fans and art collectors did come together at the San Mateo Expo Center last October 18-20, 1996. Avid fans of rock music plus cool aficionados of jazz, pop, blues, country, and soul had the opportunity to buy a piece of history at the Music Collector's Expo located at the San Mateo Expo Center. Formerly known as the Rock 'n Roll Collector's Convention, the festive Music Collector's Expo is in its second year. It is a celebration of American musical styles and their legacies. The event was held next to its sister production, the 23nd annual Antique and Collectors' Revival and Classic Car Show on the same weekend. One $5 ticket granted admisssion to both shows.

The Music Collector's Expo was a veritable groupie's paradise of "classic collecibles," like Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe, and Disney rolled into one memorable memorabilia show. Under one roof was nostalgia items appealing to all, including graying Sinatra bobby-soxers and fanatical Deadheads. Jim Phillips, one of many premier rock 'n roll poster artists, sold and autographed his posters at the expo.

Rusty Goldman of Pacifica, better known as Professor Poster, was the show's most colorful character. Wearing a vintage 1910 Edwardian suit made in England, with top hat and cane, he presided over a mini-museum of rock memorabilia bulging with original posters, printing plates, manuscripts, sheet music, publicity photos and prototypes of what are now rare rock guitars with worldwide notoriety. Also a freelance artist, rock history lecturer, and actor, Professor Poster is a collectors' collector and close friend of many of the major figures of rock music past and present.
